  • Red Meat: Beef, lamb, and pork are excellent sources of heme iron, which is easily absorbed by the body.
  • Spinach: This leafy green is not only rich in iron but also contains vitamins and minerals that support overall health.
  • Legumes: Beans, lentils, and chickpeas are great plant-based sources of iron.

Magnesium-Rich Foods

Magnesium is known for its muscle-relaxing properties, which can help soothe restless legs.

  • Nuts and Seeds: Almonds, cashews, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds are all high in magnesium.
  • Leafy Greens: Kale, Swiss chard, and spinach provide a good amount of magnesium.
  • Whole Grains: Brown rice, quinoa, and oats are not only nutritious but also magnesium-rich.

Vitamin B12 and Folate-Rich Foods

Deficiencies in vitamin B12 and folate can contribute to RLS symptoms. Including these vitamins in your diet can help.

  • Eggs: A versatile and excellent source of vitamin B12.
  • Fish: Salmon, trout, and tuna are rich in vitamin B12.
  • Leafy Greens: Besides iron and magnesium, leafy greens like spinach and kale are also good sources of folate.
  • Fortified Foods: Some cereals and plant-based milks are fortified with B12 and folate.

Potassium-Rich Foods

Potassium helps in muscle function and can prevent cramps associated with RLS

  • Bananas: Well-known for their high potassium content.
  • Sweet Potatoes: A delicious and nutrient-rich option.
  • Avocados: Not only are they rich in potassium, but they also contain healthy fats.

Calcium-Rich Foods

Calcium is essential for muscle function and nerve transmission, which can help reduce RLS symptoms.

  • Dairy Products: Milk, yogurt, and cheese are excellent sources of calcium.
  • Leafy Greens: Kale and collard greens provide calcium in addition to other essential nutrients.
  • Fortified Plant Milks: Many almond, soy, and oat milks are fortified with calcium.
